Seventeen girls from the Gloucester High School in Massachusetts are pregnant, all under 18 years of age.
WHY?! WHAT HAPPENED?? WHAT WENT WRONG?? is the public outcry so far...
The news last week saw the principal blaming the high incident of unwed, teenage pregnancy on a "pregnancy pact" as well as on movies like last year's hit movie JUNO that critics claim, glamorizes teen pregnancy.
All this in the same week when Britney Spear's younger sister, pregnant at 16, gave birth to her baby daughter after an unplanned pregnancy.
Historically speaking, girls marrying before age 16 hasn't been an object of scorn, and even now in many cultures, girls are married and bear children before age 16, but in the modern world, girls at this young age are considered not yet emotionally mature thus unable to fend for themselves, much less for a child.
This will certainly become a case study for those on both sides of the abstinence "Just Say NO! to Sex" argument.
