Film Review – "Transformers 2 – REVENGE OF THE FALLEN"
By Silent Sky, 18 July 2009
"Here, a childhood dream comes true….
A dream of fighting for justice and peace…
A dream of saving humanity…"
The mega blockbuster “Transformers 2 – Revenge of the Fallen” directed by Michael Bay picks up shortly after where the original ended. Due to great responsibilities and heroics suddenly heaped on him in the first installment, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) has grown into a brave fighter, a real hero and not the naïve teen seen in the first film.
The story begins with Sam preparing to go to university. However he has barely started, when unexpectedly, Sam suddenly sees a large number of strange signals in his mind! And then the movie explodes into action! The rest of the film is a roller coaster packed with special effects and action sequences and even though, I already knew that most ‘vehicles’ will turn into gigantic robots, there are many unexpected surprises!
A furious battle between human beings and machines begins and soon, Sam and his friends are being hunted by the Decepticons who are eager to ‘obtain’ the signals from Sam’s head and obtain an energy piece (The AllSpark) from the pocket of his girlfriend! This is part of the greater conspiracy to implement their plan of revenge: Destroying the human race and the Autobots!
It is said that Autobot leader Optimus Prime is the only one who is capable of defeating the Decepticons. Unfortunately, he ‘dies’ protecting Sam; anarchy ensues as the Decepticons wreck carnage on the world in order to find Sam.
Sam realizes his great responsibility and through persistence, he makes every effort to rescue Optimus Prime despite endless obstacles and difficulties. “I can do it as long as I believe!” is Sam’s mantra. Through bravery and intelligence, he finds the ‘heart’ of Optimus Prime in Egypt. Via Sam’s hard work, Optimus Prime is resurrected and becomes even stronger. Optimus eventually leads the Autobots and humans to victory.
Sam’s character shows that only a person who is truly brave and intelligent can win a battle; no matter how hard. Our real lives are similar to these kinds of battles. Winners are supposed to possess certain qualities others do not have. In my opinion, all the qualities are based on a clear objective, a firm faith and a sense of responsibility. After being self aware, the context of the event and knowing the objectives you seek, you can make your own dreams come true! Everyone has the power to defeat the difficulties in your life! You can do it as long as you believe!
In the end, Sam’s dream of saving the whole world comes true! Personally, I like this film because it tells a simple rule of the game of life: Anyone can achieve their dreams via hard work and persistence!
