The 2012 Mayan Calendar Predictions!
"Will the world really end in 2012 or will be it a period of transition and enlightenment?"
"Is this just another Y2K?"
The Mayan Prophecy of 2012
Don't panic too much but according to ancient Mayan calendars, December 21, 2012 could be the end of the world! Or, humanity could enter into a period of spiritual enlightenment!
As expert stargazers, the ancient Maya followed an astrological cycle called the "Precession of the Equinoxes". The human race is now living today at the Mayan end times that mark the end of a galactic time period spanning thousands of years.
One time period of 25,625 years is divided into five cycles of 5,125 years. The Great Cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar ends on the winter solstice of 2012. The present cycle (3113 B.C. - 2012 A.D.) is called the Age of the Fifth Sun. December 21st 2012 is the last day of the present cycle!
WHAT COULD HAPPEN?
According to predictions, the following will occur:
On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years!
According to Scientific forecasts, the Earth's magnetic poles may reverse in 2012!
The solar magnetic poles may reverse in 2012!
Obviously if any of these actions do occur is anyone's guess!
NOT ALL BAD NEWS!
Not all doom and gloom is predicted, the Mayans believed universal processes, like the 'breathing' of the galaxy, are consistent cycles and that each entity (Human being) has a cosmos within / surrounding them.
With each cycle period ending, what changes is the consciousness of the human race that passes through as it strives towards perfection. To them, every end has a beginning so all the cosmic alignments on Dec 21st, 2012 are supposed to form a 'gateway' between the Universe and the souls of every living creature on Earth so enlightening everyone of us and ushering us into a new golden age.
Personally, I like this scenario better!
THE MAYA CIVILIZATION:
The Maya civilization is probably the best-known of the classical civilizations of Mesoamerica.
Originated in the Yucatan around 2600 B.C., they rose to prominence around A.D. 250 in present-day southern Mexico, Guatemala, western Honduras, El Salvador, and northern Belize.
All history buffs will understand that Mayan civilization at its zenith quickly declined in the blink of an eye. The causes remain a mystery till this day.
SHOULD WE BE WORRIED?
Some people are worried as the Mayans were extremely sophisticated and advanced! Also the second great cycle ended in air borne disaster, the third in fire, the fourth in flood so who knows what this cycle will bring.
The Mayans:
Calculated the exact duration of a year to a thousandth of a decimal point.
Were able to predict every solar and lunar eclipse until this day.
Already knew the Earth's revolution cycle of 365 days, 6 hours 24 minutes and 20 seconds to the tee.
Knew where the galactic equinox and the exact middle of the Milky Way lay, they called this crossing 'the Sacred Tree'.
Were good at astrology, mysteriously, they predicted what year their civilization would be overrun by foreigners coming from over the seas.
They apparently predicted the world wars, invention of the plane and the automobile!
Just as everything in the universe has a beginning; everything will eventually come to an end. The core questions left are when and how! As scenarios like these are practically impossible to predict no matter how good science and technology are, Mayan calendar or not, humanity will truly never ever know a final 'date'. Regardless, most experts fully expect people to be doing last minute Christmas shopping on December 23nd 2012! One thing is certain though, life is short so make the most of it as you never know what will happen!
