Today, here at iCUBED.us we took the bold step of bringing our own food containers to the corner noodle shop and asked them to save using their usual styrofoam food containers. It was bold because we'd never seen anyone else ask and we weren't sure whether the owner would be reluctant and think us troublemakers.
We are delighted to report that the shop owner was both friendly to our request and gave us generous portions with a smile. This has to be due to the frequent press reports on TV as well as newspapers telling of the environment crisis thus making everyone aware that we all need to start thinking about how AND to start actually DOING things, even as little as bringing your own food container to save more styrofoam, paper and plastic waste from ending up in the rubbish bin.
Would you feel embarrassed to bring cups and food containers when you buy ready made food from the local market, noodle shop, or cafe you frequent? Or do you already do this? Comment below about your experiences and thoughts.

We've heard some media
We've heard some media commentators say that glassroots action like bringing your food containers or changing light bulbs to the long life type, even using rechargeable batteries, don't make a difference, instead, they say, only policy level changes can solve the climate change crisis.
It's true that many "businesses" misuse the "green" label to just sell more product, but this is not to say that individual action and concern for the environment is wasted effort.
Every sincere effort is at least a small step in the right direction. And, once we take a first small step there is hope that we will be more willing to make more efforts towards bigger solutions that will collectively be able to solve even our biggest challenges ...
As many in the green movement say, "if we can put a man on the moon, we can certainly find a solution to the climate change crisis as well as any challenge we face."

This is an established
This is an established practice in Taiwan - people bring not just tupperware, but chopsticks to eat out so there's little need for plastic containers. Most places in Hong Kong are ok with this. Not using so many containers means less of an expense for them.
Deducted $1 off meal :)
isn't that great?
do YOUR part, every little bit helps.
I also bring my own shopping bag always with me.

I go for reducing waste
I won't be embarrassed at all to bring my own food container instead of styrofoam cups or food packaging. A lot of health ministries now are asking food establishments to stop using such packaging which may cause health diseases when ingested. But still, styrofoam can be used for arts and crafts and proper care and storage for home appliances and furniture. I think people just need to be responsible for the usage of this material and proper waste disposal.
