Available publicly on October 22nd, reviews of Windows 7 (formerly named Vienna and Blackcomb) have been generally positive so far, and it is shaping up to look like the best Microsoft OS ever.
Here's a few of Windows 7's most impressive new features:
Themes: In addition to being able to set the color of windows, backgrounds, icons, cursors etc., you can now have desktop slideshow settings—changing the desktop background image after a given amount of time. Along with the 7 default themes (ranging from “Harmony” to “Architecture”), additional packs can be downloaded for free at Microsoft's site.
Start menu: Retaining popular features from Vista including the "Search” function (now included to search the Control Panel) and with improved graphics and a fade-in effect, Windows 7's start menu looks much nicer than all previous edition.
Aero Peek: A cute little feature, Aero Peek makes the windows transparent, allowing you to see what's behind them and/or the desktop.
Aero Shake: By "shaking" (dragging back and forth) a window, all other windows will minimize. When shook again, the other windows are restored again.
