We'd like to bring this film to iCUBED.us readers' attention because it has been nominated for this year's "Academy Award for best documentary". And on last week's Oprah Show, the No.1 rated talk show, she recommended the film; resulting in its DVD sales rising dramatically.

When you go shopping for groceries at your local supermarket, do you know what you are actually purchasing?

How many levels of the food processing chain did that tomato you had last night go through?

FOOD INC by director Robert Kenner is an absolutely fascinating documentary that details the hidden side of the American food industry and how in the march towards profits, the food industry is dangerously neglecting ethical and hygiene standards.

The United States' and the world’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations. These corporations often place profit ahead of consumer health, livelihoods of the American and world farmers, the safety of workers and the environment. The world now has bigger-breasted chickens, perfect pork chops, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad!

But we also have new strains of E. coli — the harmful bacteria that causes illness in an estimated 73,000 Americans annually - and many other negative repercussions. Globally, there is widespread obesity, particularly amongst children and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

For cheaper and seemingly ‘better’ quality food, what long-term physical and financial price are we paying with our health? The answer is, "much more than we know!" This documentary film features informative interviews and brings up serious issues including:

* Genetic Engineering
* Cloning
* Farm Worker Protection
* The environment
* Pesticides
* Healthy Eating
* Labels on food products

You will be educated, even shocked by the stories told, and one thing's for sure, you'll never look at a vegetable in the same way! Once you watch it, I can guarantee that you will READ the labels on your food and drink purchases more carefully!

Enlightening and scary at the same time! Worthwhile viewing!
