Giving is such a simple concept which reaps many great benefits but many are still hesitant to perform this straight forward action. People often say that they don’t make enough or that the economic climate is bad to not give to charity; but it is estimated that if a person makes US$50,000 per annum, they are already in the top 1% of all income earners in the world! Comparatively, some people are luckier than they think they are! Even the smallest of actions can make a huge difference for those less well off than yourselves!
A prime example is Chen Shu Chu, an everyday vegetable market seller in Taiwan, one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential persons in the world!
From her steady but modest income, Chen has managed to give NT$10 million (US$320,000) to different well meaning causes. These include a children’s fund, a library in her old school and an orphanage where she gives financial support to three children. Chen does not feel her actions are special but normal. Her attitude is best summed up in this quote:
“Money serves its purpose only when it is used for those who need it”
Chen, far from being a millionaire, is an everyday person with a big heart to give! Her actions hopefully can spark others to follow her example. Little things such as giving USD1 a month, donating spare change, being sponsored for an event or giving up your time to help can all make a difference! You may wonder what USD1 can do? But if 10,000 people gave USD1 then you would have USD10,000! A ripple effect can occur! Jet Li’s One Foundation is based on the concept that if everyone in China donated 1 Yuan then potentially 1.4 billion Yuan can be used for charitable reasons!
Giving should come naturally and aside from helping others, you will feel great in the knowledge that you have made a difference to someone, somewhere in the world!
Dream Big! Give more!
