Dear Readers
This is a three part series where I like to introduce what I feel is the main idea for each of the Spiderman movies. As superheroes' go, Spiderman has a special place because we see him struggling with his human frailties such as a need for revenge, lack of confidence and facing up to his personal demons.
Due to an accident on a school field trip, an ordinary teenager, Peter Parker, gains a set of “super powers”. He can scale walls, gets many-fold increase in strength and speed of response plus he can shoot spider webs that propel him through the air and as a weapon.
His first response to his newfound special abilities is to win the attention of the girl he likes by earning enough money to buy a car. He enters a boxing tournament which he wins but the owner cheats Parker and refuses to pay the full winnings to him. As Parker waits for the lift, a man robs the owner and rushes past Parker who does nothing to stop him. When the owner asks Parker why he didn’t lift a finger to stop the robber, Parker replies that "It is none of my business".
But tragedy strikes, the robber shoots and kills Parker's Uncle Ben who was there to pick him up. Parker captures the villain and New York has a new mysterious crime fighter.
The film concludes by introducing an enduring idea that one hopes will continue to inspire generations of youth to apply their God-given talents, not only to enrich themselves but rather to the benefit of society: "With great power comes great responsibility...".
