I understand if people don't like Sony for making the PS3 too expensive or hard to code for and then go flaming on forums, but libel? That's just saying that they don't have any real explanation for their hatred of Sony and they have to make something up in order to justify it. But, the sad thing is that some people actually believe these stories. I expected that the number of these make believe incidents would increase as the holidays neared, but fortunately that wasn't the case. Maybe people are actually warming up to the fact that the PS3 is not so bad.
Anyway, the newest PS3 firmware finally allows DivX and Xvid movie playback, which owners have been begging for since launch. Another cool feature is the ability to use remote play with PS1 games. This means that if your PS3 is left on standby, you can turn it on with a PSP through the internet and play the PS1 game that is inside. Also, planned later for PS3 is a service called PlayTV which turns the PS3 into a DVR that can record TV onto its hard drive. I really don't mean to sound like a fanboy, but these firmware updates keep getting better and better. The movie functionality is getting better, along with the arrival of more PS3 exclusives like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Unreal Tournament III. Also, some companies have announced that to avoid coding issues for multiplatform games, they will be programmed for PS3 first and then for the 360, unlike with many recent games which see slowdown on the PS3.
All in all, 2008 looks like a good year for gaming, with the competition evened out between PS3 and 360. Then of course, the Wii is going to dominate the sales charts even more when Super Smash Brothers: Brawl comes out in February. I can't believe that if it wasn't delayed, I would be playing it right now. Two more months...
