AL GORE IS AT THE FOREFRONT OF A CLIMATE CHANGE MOVEMENT

The visionary leader is calling for the American people and government officials to take global warming seriously

Al Gore, former U.S. Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has launched a three-year multimillion-dollar campaign to reduce greenhouse gases, simply called “we.” I believe that Gore has a calling – his legacy will be one of starting a movement to promote climate change.

The Alliance for Climate Protection campaign aims to combine various media outlets to educate the public about global warming. By creating partnerships with other grassroots organizations and a mass advertising campaign aimed at creating awareness among the public and among elected officials in the government, “we” is going to put the issue of climate change at the forefront.

Over a three-year period, the Alliance will initially spend $300,000, and possibly more in the future. Gore has put his money where his mouth is by contributing personal profits from his book and movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” as well as the $750,000 award from his portion of the Nobel Peace Prize and a personal matching gift of unknown amount.

Cleverly enough, the campaign will liken the climate-change movement with other large-scale historical crusades like ending segregation in the U.S., ending fascism in Europe during World War II, and putting a man on the moon.

Mr. Gore and his associates understand that many Americans are concerned with issues of global warming, but feel helpless in their actions to make a real difference. That’s why the “we” campaign Web site is providing people with answers on how to conserve energy at home and at work, and instruction on how to write to elected officials.

Another wonderful aspect of this campaign is its involvement with groups such as the Girl Scouts. With a membership of 2.7 million girls, the group will take a climate action pledge and the Alliance will provide them with kits giving them ideas for projects they can do in their neighborhoods. This truly is a start of a movement. The youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders, and Mr. Gore has the right idea. Involve everyone, reach out to people of all ages, and if the campaign is bold enough, then people will listen.
