By BrendaL-21, 11 January 2010
It's been a long time since I've become so completely enraptured by something that I find myself combing the internet for hours on end - drinking up every last bit of information about my new obsession. But lo and behold, that time has arrived, and I find myself utterly addicted.
My name is Brenda, and I'm a Billy-aholic.

| WORLD ANIMAL DAY is October 4th! |
1 October 2009, by Nomadic Chris
We've said it before. Every cause has its own day of celebration, so WHY NOT our furry friends in the animal kingdom?
Why shouldn't animals have a special day where the spotlight falls solely on them?
THEY DO! Every October 4th is World Animal Day!
From big cuddly pandas to your pet hamster, October 4th is the day that animals receive mankind’s special care and attention. Such is modern day life; the welfare of animals and their needs have mostly been overlooked.
Animals are:
- Exploited in the food industry

Why it's easy to be passionate and emotional when it comes to choosing a dog, cat, fish, or other type of pet, and it's easy to imagine the comfort and pleasure of playing with these wonderful living creatures. So, it's also easy that we forget how they are entirely dependent on us - as their owners - to take care of all their needs whether daily ones like food and exercise, care and attention or special needs, like when they are ill, or when we need to travel and leave them behind.

| What type of PET suits You? |
by !Baha, 4 August 2009
We often hear people say, "I'm a dog person" -or- "I'm a cat person", as if there are only two types of animals in the world for us to raise as pets. But it's more than that, a dog person usually dislikes cats, finds them too independent, finicky, unaffectionate; and mostly it's the same the other way around, people who like cats find dogs too dependent, expressive, hyper.

“I’d think, "Why me? Why does everybody pick on me? What have I done?"
In fact, I asked them once and they just laughed at me and said, "It's because you're you."
That confirmed my fears. It was because of who I was.”

by Mags, 25 December 2008

There's been so much loss this year: lives lost in China's earthquake in Sichuan, in Southeast Asia with typhoon Nagis, in India with acts of terrorism, and then, there were huge fortunes lost beginning with the subprime mortgage crisis, and then the collapse of banks, and now with the scandalous and spectacular cave-in of "the house that Bernard Madoff built", draining with it the funds of hundreds of important charities and philanthropic groups.

| PORTIA ON PETS: Selfish or Selfless, you decide... |

by PortiaC, 24 December 2008
"Here in HK, many families have helpers, mostly from Philippines, some from Thailand and Indonesia. In our household it's no different, we've had a helper since 12 years ago when Pepsi started to go under treatment for lymphoma. Since both my husband and I had to go to work, we decided that hiring a live in helper would be best for our three dogs, especially for Pepsi who needed constant attention in case of complications during chemotherapy.

With the help of our friend in the United States, we've finally found a wheelchair that is affordable and suitable for our other dog, Leo.
We ordered it online and it only took about a week to be custom-made and shipped to Hong Kong. It arrived just a few days ago and we've helped Leo try it out a few times a day, a few minutes each time, so he can adjust to the idea of using a doggie wheelchair.

"Bunny, our 15 year old collie had a seizure few days ago. It happened so suddenly without any symptoms. I was home alone at the time and I did not know what to do but to hold him and at the same time call the vet clinic.
The seizure went on for about 3 minutes and Bunny finally relaxed. I then picked him up and rushed him to the clinic. To be honest, I didn't know where I got the strength to pick up a 50 lbs dog and carried him all the way until I could find a taxi! My arms are still hurting.

| PORTIA on Pets: SMART PETS NEVER FORGET |
by PortiaC, 16 July 2008
I often wonder what animals can remember or whether they choose to remember certain things.
Although a lot of people say that dogs have the intelligence equivalent to a 3-year-old child, and they can only remember things for a very short time, I believe that like humans, they do have a long memory of oft-repeated incidents or circumstances; therefore, repetitive performance of a certain acts, therefore, they learn to be obedient and know when it's time for them to be fed or go for a walk. They also remember being abused or being loved.

| SachinS-15, - ON BANNING ANIMAL TESTING |
By SachinS-15, 14 July 2008

Every year, the government hires countless professionals to answer the same question: “Should animal experimentation be banned?’’ And every year, the answer is the same: no.
A recent poll, held on a professional doctor’s website, www.doctorndtv.com, showed that 42 percent of the voters thought that animal testing should be banned and the other 58 percent decided that animal testing should NOT be banned.
Why?
Because animal testing is not just a luxury, it is a necessity.
