| STAND ON ONE LEG WITH EYES CLOSED AND LIVE LONGER: a simple but effective exercise |
|
|
|
17 Jan 2012
Reprinted from email - A simple but effective exercise
The essence of the exercise is that your "Eyes Must be Closed" when you are doing this exercise. You must practise the "Jin Ji Du Li" exercise with the eyes closed. This exercise was so simple and amazing that I thought I had to share it here.
Here is the exercise:
Stand on one leg while your eyes are closed. That is all. Just try it right now, stop reading and stand up, close your eyes and try standing on one foot.

Studies suggest that eating protein-rich foods improves memory and recall.
But eating a meat heavy meal makes anyone sleepy, and drinking too many cups of coffee or tea makes one jittery, many problems... so what's the answer?
Snacking on nuts? Could do.

| ValerieW- 18 on "Value Added" |
|
|
|
by ValerieW-18, 11 July 2011
I don't know about you, but many Asian people seem to evaluate the quality of a dish by the cost of its ingredients. "Aiyaa, why are you getting the pasta with the tomato sauce, tomatoes are so cheap! Get the one with the truffles instead; they're much more expensive." To which I inevitably respond with a sigh. I love my mom and all, but someone needs to drill it into her head that expensive ingredients aren't everything. First of all, while you have to pay for quality, high prices don't necessarily translate into goodness. More importantly, the value added by the chefs/creators--their technique, their expertise--makes all the difference in the world.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT WEEK
by LoLa, 6 June 2011
According to this report, the reason for calling all governments to find creative ways of implementing national “meat and diary-free” diets is because of ... over-population, ... and the huge stresses on our planet of trying to feed the masses of people yet to be borne. World population is expected to grow from 6 billion to 9 billion in the next forty years.
We definitely should switch to a plant based diet.

Laboratory tests show an alarming statistic – teen girls across the U.S. are contaminated with potentially harmful chemicals typically found in cosmetics and body care products such as moisturizer, lotion, deodorant, nail polish, makeup, and more. A new study conducted by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) discovered 16 chemicals from four chemical families – phthalates, triclosan, parabens and musks in blood and urine samples from 20 teen girls aged 14-19.

Vegetarians, vegans and raw food eaters – is one better than the other?
by nycScribbler, 23 November 2010
People nowadays are avoiding meat or animal products for multiple reasons, some because they are concerned about the environmental impact--the higher costs of raising farm animals for food, methane gases released by the animals; or because they want to eat and be healthier, or because they simply don’t want to be responsible for the killing of other sentient life forms.
Health, Wealth, and Karmic benefits, all seem good reasons to make some lifestyle changes!

MSNBC lists some surprisingly bad locations for your health, and the best places to optimize it:
- Worst place to keep your toothbrush -- the bathroom sink
There are 3.2 million microbes per square inch in the average toilet bowl, and all of those germs are propelled out every time you flush, settling on the floor and the sink. Keep your toothbrush behind closed doors in the medicine cabinet or a nearby
cupboard.
- Worst place to stash sneakers and flip-flops -- the bedroom closet

"It's not every day that a sighted person can look at a blind person and say 'they're doing it' so he can do it." Charlie Wilks, teenage blind football player.
Have you ever played the full contact sport of American football?
The speed and ferocity of the game can be brutal. It is not for the faint of heart to play or even watch! Imagine playing in a defensive role where your job is to physically overcome your equally determined opponents. Now imagine playing completely blind...

In these tough economic times, where can people turn for hope?
Currently, times are tough. Unemployment levels are rising around the world. The current economic crisis mirrors the Great Depression of the 1930’s where joblessness was more common than uncommon. Back then, the masses often turned to sports for hope.

by EuniceN-21, 5 October 2009
When I was doing research for my high school newspaper, I was startled to discover from a doctor that apparently, a number of the students in my school were malnourished. This was startling because I went to one of the most expensive schools in Hong Kong. We weren’t malnourished because we weren’t getting enough food to eat, but because we weren’t getting enough nutrients from the food we were eating. This was due to the fact that few students were eating enough fruits and vegetables, and also because the fruits and vegetables we were eating weren’t fresh.

Whenever we look for what things go best together, we look for combinations that will last and that feel pleasant together. Whether exotic cuisines, colors, ideas or people, we seek the best fusions; in this increasingly diversified world, our individual pursuits are widely different, but our goals are the same — it is not so much that we look for the best single entity, but rather for combinations that work best.
